Adventures of the Gummi Bears (TV Series 1985 - 1991)

Plot

 

Long ago, there was a thriving civilization of small humanoid bears called Gummi Bears. Possessing powerful magic and advanced technology, this race coexisted with humans until the growing rivalry forced the Gummis to flee across the sea, leaving only a small caretaker colony to prepare for a possible return. However, generations passed and the colony forgot their purpose even as human knowledge of the race faded into mere legend. All that changes when the colony meets a boy with a Gummi Bear medallion which unlocks the Great Book of Gummi which reveals lost knowledge of their past. Now the colony has dedicated themselves to the new goal to rediscover their heritage with the help of a few trusted humans while preventing new enemies like Duke Igthorn from exploiting that heritage to their own ends. 



 

Season 1

Season 1, Episode 1: A New Beginning

As Duke Igthorn plans an attack on King Gregor's castle, Cavin (a Page in the castle) is left in the woods after some of Igthorn's Ogres run off the Humans. The Gummi Bears find Cavin passed out in the woods with a Great Gummi Medallion, that was left to him by his Grandfather. When he proves he is a friend, the Gummi Bears and Cavin team up to stop Igthorn's plans.

 

Season 1, Episode 2: The Sinister Sculptor/Zummi Makes It Hot

A sculptor kidnaps the bears, freezes them with a magic powder, and sells them as statues to Princess Calla.

Season 1, Episode 3: Someday My Prints Will Come/Can I Keep Him?

Tummi discovers a mechanical decoy used to make dragon footprints and uses it. The knights of Dunwyn see it and think it is a real dragon.

 

Season 1, Episode 4: A Gummi in a Gilded Cage

Sunni is kidnapped by a flock of ugly bird-like creatures known as Carpies, whose king wants her for a song bird. The other Gummis must use their new flying machine to get to the top of the mountain and rescue her.

Season 1, Episode 5: The Oracle/When You Wish Upon a Stone
Original Air Date12 October 1985
In "The Oracle," Tummi finds a stone ogre oracle and uses it to trick Duke Igthorn and the ogres with it. In "When You Wish Upon a Stone," Cubbi and Cavin find a wishing stone in a cave guarded by a giant.

 

Season 1, Episode 6: A Gummi by Any Other Name

Zummi makes a magic hat for Sunni, who can change her appearance to anyone she wants by speaking that person's name. She turns herself into Princess Calla.

Season 1, Episode 7: Loopy, Go Home/A-Hunting We Will Go

In "Loopy, Go Home," Cubbi finds a wolf cub and raises it, despite Gruffi's objections. In "A-Hunting We Will Go," a wild boar menaces Dunwyn Forest.

 

Season 1, Episode 8: The Fence Sitter/Night of the Gargoyle

A bird is eating all the Gummiberries, and Tummi's vote will decide how the Gummis are going to deal with it. Duke Igthorn sends a gargoyle to King Gregor with a note signed "The Gummi Bears". The gargoyle comes alive at night and starts to destroy things.

The Ogres kidnap Grammi and take her to Castle Drekmore, where Duke Igthorn attempts to coax the recipe for Gummiberry juice from her.

The Gummis discover a magic key belonging to a wizard of a different land, hidden by Igthorn. Thinking that the Gummis stole his key a showdown between Zummi and the wizard ensues.

Season 1, Episode 11: What You See Is Me/Toadie's Wild Ride

Tummi befriends a blind lady shepherd. Duke Igthorn catapults Toadie into the forest, where he makes his way into Gummi Glen. When Tummi, who has been caught eating the other bears' picnic lunches and lying about it, sees him, no one believes him when he tries to tell them.

In "Faster Than a Speeding Tummi," Tummi cleans up his act and learns faster is not better. In "For a Few Sovereigns More," Duke Igthorn hires a bounty hunter to catch a Gummi Bear. When he refuses to pay, the hunter locks up Igthorn, the ogres, and Cubbi in his castle.
